Dear Scouting Family:
Troop 16 wishes all of you the best this holiday season. Please print, share, and save this
newsletter to answer your questions in the immediate future.

Wreath Business
If you have not yet picked up your wreaths, please pick them up as soon as possible from the
back yard of the MacMillan family at 404 North East. We still have wreaths and garlands available for
sale.

Please remember that cash, checks and sales lists are due at the December 7 troop
meeting. Cash rebates are given only after the boy has turned in his sales list and all receipts to Dick
Tresselt. Included is a spreadsheet indicating the status for all boys’ accounts. Please review the
included spreadsheet and contact Dick Tresselt (848-5040) if you have any questions regarding your
scout’s sales.

Congratulations to our scouts on a great effort this year! Our sales averaged 27 wreaths per
scout! A special note of thanks goes to our “wreath sales manager,” Dick Tresselt, the many parents
who assisted in the wreath sales efforts, especially Mike Stewart, Mike Downs, Kandiah
Kanagandram, Neal Heriaud, John Jenks, Susan Donatone, Laura Corbett and Liz Summy, and
many others who assisted with this fundraiser. Thanks to our scouts and parents our sales have
reached nearly 2700 wreaths so far – that’s an increase of 300 over last year!

Court of Honor – December 14
Our annual December Court of Honor takes place at 8:00 on Friday, December 14 in the First
United Church sanctuary (preceded by regular troop meeting at 7:30). All parents are invited to
attend. Light refreshments will follow the ceremony. Scouts will be recognized for the rank
advancements they earned and the leadership positions they fulfilled this fall.

For those of you who are new to the troop, recognition for all rank advancements since our
August troop picnic will be included in the ceremony. A list of those Scouts will be sent out shortly.
All parents are invited and encouraged to attend to help recognize the outstanding job done by our
Scouts and your sons.

Ski Trip – January 12
Saturday, January 12, is our annual ski trip to Cascade Mountain near Portage, WI. This is the
least expensive way to ski or snowboard and is a great first experience for a scout. Your scout’s
never skied before?  No problem! An optional lesson is provided by a certified ski instructor at no
extra cost. Save the date – January 12.  Signup information is attached.  Space is limited and sign-
up will be on a first-come first-served basis.

January Shin Go Beek Campout – Jan. 25-27
Our annual winter campout at Camp Shin Go Beek is coming up on the weekend of January 25-27.  Remember that this campout is only for scouts who have sold at least 15 wreaths. Save the
dates – signup information will be out soon. We depart Oak Park early for this trip: 4:30 PM.

November Campout
It was a great weekend for backpacking in the Kettle Moraine Forest in Wisconsin!  51 scouts
enjoyed a weekend of backpacking along with 14 adults.  The weather was perfect for fall
backpacking. The six crews hiked varying distances from six to twenty miles.  We hope you can join
us next year for this unique experience.

Spring Break High Adventure 2013
Scouts who are Star Rank and above may be eligible to join us for a Spring Break High
Adventure Canoeing Trip on the Buffalo River in Arkansas. This trip takes place over spring break
and includes four days of canoeing and some time exploring the local “culture”. It’s great trip that
we’ve done before with very positive feedback from scouts. If your scout is interested, please contact
Terry Dutton for more information.

High Adventure Summer 2013
Scouts Star Rank and above may be eligible for summer high adventure trips, including a
canoe trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Northern Minnesota (late July) and a backpacking
trip to the Pacific Northwest (early August).  Look for information coming in the next couple weeks

Other Information
Our Troop Committee meeting this month will be tonight - Tuesday, December 4, at the church (first floor) from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. We welcome and invite all parents.

Sincerely,
Jim Bicak, Scoutmaster
