Dear Scouting Family:
Troop 16 wishes all of you the best this holiday season. Please print, share, and save this
newsletter to answer your questions in the immediate future.

Wreath Business
If you have not yet picked up your wreaths, please pick them up as soon as possible from the
back yard of the MacMillan family. Keep selling: we still have nearly 100 wreaths
and garlands available for sale. If you have additional sales at size 36” or larger, please call Dick
Tresselt to confirm availability.

Please remember that cash, checks and sales lists are due at the December 6 troop
meeting. Cash rebates are given only after the boy has turned in his sales list and all receipts to Dick
Tresselt. Included is a spreadsheet indicating the status for all scouts’ accounts. Please review the
spreadsheet and contact Dick Tresselt if you have any questions regarding your scout’s
sales.

Congratulations to our scouts on a great effort this year! Our sales averaged 23 wreaths per
scout! A special note of thanks goes to our “wreath czar,” Dick Tresselt, the MacMillan/Metz family
for the use of their yard, and the many parents who assisted in the wreath sales efforts, especially
Mike Stewart, Mike Downs, Kandiah Kanagandram, Neal Heriaud, John Jenks, Marlene O’Connell,
Carolyn Schiffner, John Buchta, Andy and Lourdes Kaczkowski, Cecilia Thornton, Chris Dunaway,
Gina Robbins, Kit Bernardi, Mary Howorth, Laura Sullivan, Pat Woytek, Mary Roberts, Alison White,
Mary Anne Kennedy, Susan Silvis, Julie Kostalanski, Bob Moriarty, Susan Donatone, Laura Corbett
and Liz Summy, and many others who assisted with this fundraiser. Thanks to our scouts and
parents our sales have reached over 2500 wreaths so far!

Registration
Registration fees are due on Friday at the troop meeting. Annual registration is $35, with an
additional $12 if you order Boys’ Life magazine. Order of the Arrow registration for all Order of the
Arrow members is an additional $15.

Court of Honor – December 20
Our annual December Court of Honor takes place at 8:00 on Friday, December 20 in the First
United Church sanctuary (preceded by regular troop meeting at 7:30). All parents are invited to
attend. Light refreshments will follow the ceremony. Scouts will be recognized for the rank
advancements they earned and the leadership positions they fulfilled this fall.
For those of you who are new to the troop, recognition for all rank advancements since our
August troop picnic will be included in the ceremony. A list of those Scouts will be sent out shortly.
All parents are invited and encouraged to attend to help recognize the outstanding job done by our
Scouts and your sons.

January Shin Go Beek Campout – Jan. 24-26
Our annual winter campout at Camp Shin Go Beek is coming up on the weekend of January
24-26. Remember that this campout is only for scouts who have sold at least 15 wreaths. Save the
dates – signup information will be out soon. We depart Oak Park early for this trip: 4:30 PM.

Ski Trip – February 8
Saturday, February 8, is our annual ski trip to Cascade Mountain near Portage, WI. This is the
least expensive way to ski or snowboard and is a great first experience for a scout. Your scout’s
never skied before? No problem! An optional lesson is provided by a certified ski instructor at no
extra cost. Save the date – February 8. Signup information will be send soon. Space is limited and
sign-up will be on a first-come first-served basis.

Spring Break High Adventure 2013
Scouts who are Star Rank and above may be eligible to join us for a Spring Break High
Adventure Canoeing Trip on the Buffalo River in Arkansas. This trip takes place over spring break
and includes four days of canoeing and some time exploring the local “culture”. It’s great trip that
we’ve done before with very positive feedback from scouts. If your scout is interested, please contact
Terry Dutton for more information.

High Adventure Summer 2013
Scouts Star Rank and above may be eligible for a summer high adventure canoe trip to the
Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Northern Minnesota in late July. Look for information coming in the
next couple weeks.

Other Information
Our Troop Committee meeting this month will be tomorrow - Tuesday, December 3, at the
church (first floor) from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. We welcome and invite all parents.

Sincerely,
Terry Dutton, Scoutmaster
Jim Bicak, Committee Chair
