Boy Scout Troop 16
Oak Park, Illinois
January 30, 2014

Dear Scouting Family:
Our second semester always seems a bit busier than the first one (if that’s possible), so please save this letter and note the calendar at the end.

Troop Ski Trip – Forms Due January 31!
We’re headed to Cascade Mountain on Saturday, February 8. Please see the attached forms for signupinformation – and turn forms in by the troop meeting on Friday, January 31! The bus will LEAVE at 7AM.

Important Election Nights Coming Up
The scouts have two important election nights coming up: February 7 and February 14. On February 7,scouts will be electing their patrol leaders for the second half of the school year. It is important that all scoutsparticipate in this process. This is also an opportunity for a scout to join a different patrol, if they choose to.
Also, on Feb. 7 and Feb 14, we are holding Order of the Arrow elections. The Order of the Arrow is an honor society in scouting to recognize scouts who are leaders and demonstrate best the Oath and Law. The scouts of our troop elect their peers to this honor society. This year, we’ll be holding two rounds of Order of theArrow elections – a preliminary election on Feb. 7 and a final election on February 14. Scouts will need a certain number of votes in the preliminary election in order to be on the final ballot.

February Campout
The signup deadline for the February 21-23 Indiana Dunes campout is February 14 at the troopmeeting. If you have not yet volunteered to drive on a campout, this one is close enough to do a drop-off or apick-up.

Chess Merit Badge and Merit Badge Academy
A flyer is attached for a Chess Merit Badge event on Presidents Day, February 17. Please note, this isnot a troop event, nor is the troop organizing a group to attend. This is an individual event. Scouts shouldwear full uniform if they attend.
Des Plaines Valley Council’s annual Merit Badge Academy is scheduled for March 22 at Elmwood ParkHigh School. Please see the attached flyer for more info. This, also, is not a troop-organized event. Scouts should wear full uniforms if they attend.
