Dear Scouting Family:
The school year is winding down, but Troop 16 is busy in the summer!  Please review this newsletter
for the details regarding all out summer activities.
May Campout
Our campout to Rock Cut State Park was a successful weekend for the troop.  Over 40 boys and 12
adults enjoyed a weekend on the lake.  Several scouts advanced in rank, fishing and canoeing were popular
activities, and the weather was beautiful.  Thank you to our drivers/adult leaders: Brian Arnoldt, Dennis and
Linda Bonner, Josh Chrisman, James Conner, John and Laura Corbett, Terry Dutton, Tamee Goldenberg,
Peter Harlan, Chris Heffernan, Neal Heriaud, Mike Hoag, Kandiah Kanagandram, Jon Mindrum, Peter McCoy,
Sharon Pearce, Bill Richardson, Dave Schaafsma, Scott Schiffner, Graham Steele, Dan Sullivan, and Liz
Final Troop Meeting and Court of Honor
Friday, June 3, is our year-end meeting and Court of Honor, including an Eagle Court of Honor for
Graham Steele.  Boys will be electing next year‟s Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) at that meeting.  Please see the
attached invitation for the Court of Honor.
The regular troop meeting begins at 7:30, and the Court of Honor in the church sanctuary begins at
8:15.  All parents are invited to join us for this ceremony recognizing all scouts who have advanced a rank
since December.  Refreshments will be served afterwards.  This will be a nice way to wrap up our year and we
hope to see you there.

Canoe Day Trip
Our canoe trip is this Saturday, June 4.  We‟ll leave from the First United Church parking lot promptly at
9 AM.  The trip starts in Yorkville, IL and will last about six hours.  Lunch will be included and the group will
return to Oak Park around 6 PM.  Participants should were clothes suitable for the weather – and don‟t forget
sunscreen and a water bottle.  Be prepared to get your shoes wet, too.  Uniforms are not required for this
activity.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Bicak.
Family Campout
Our family campout June 10-12 is at Pokagon State Park in Indiana.  It will be a weekend of boating,
swimming, fishing, hiking, and more!  An email will go directly to participants with additional information on this
trip, including directions.  The first meal served will be lunch on Friday and the final meal will be lunch on
Sunday.  We will not meet in Oak Park or travel as a group for this campout.
Summer Camp
All scouts signed up for camp received a mailing about summer camp from Jim Bicak.  Please read
that letter carefully.   It contains information about camp medical forms, fees due, merit badge schedule, and
confirmation of week(s) your scout is attending.  We will have a pre-camp meeting on June 21 at 7:30 PM.
This meeting is required for both the scout and a parent.  All scouts who have attended camp with the
troop before must complete merit badge signup (either using the signup paper in the letter or by going
online to  All fees and paperwork must be completed by our pre-camp meeting on
June 21.
