Dear Scouting Family:
Troop 16 welcomes the families of our 22 new scouts who have recently registered with the troop. We
hope that your son’s time with Troop 16 is enjoyable and productive. A reminder especially for our
new families: Since emails can get lost or deleted, it might be best to print the newsletter and
save it for reference. You can always check our website for a current calendar and other

100th Anniversary Celebration – June 4
All families are invited to celebrate 100 years of Troop 16 on Saturday, June 4 from 11:00 AM- 2:30
PM at Thatcher Woods Pavilion. RSVP on our website as soon as possible: The
day will be filled with activities, displays, and food! We’re looking forward to many current and
former Troop members gathering for this special event. We’ll be in need of scout volunteers
throughout the day. More information will be coming in the next couple weeks.

In the evening, an adults-only gathering will be held at Healy’s Westside in Forest Park starting
at 7PM. Appetizers will be provided. It is a cash bar, no RSVP needed for the evening event.

May Campout
Our May campout is to Rock Cut State Park near Rockford, IL, May 20-22. Signup for the campout is
Friday, May 13. We need several drivers and adults to camp for the weekend, as this is one of our
highest attended weekend campouts of the year. Scouts who are attending must bring $15 cash to the
May 13 meeting and know if a parent is driving/attending. Late signups will not be accepted.

Final Troop Meeting
Friday, June 3 is our year-end meeting and Court of Honor. Boys will be electing next year’s Senior
Patrol Leader (SPL) at that meeting. Any scout interested in serving as SPL needs to speak with Mr.
Dutton by our May campout weekend.

The regular troop meeting begins at 7:30, and the Court of Honor in the church sanctuary begins at
8:00. All parents are invited to join us for this ceremony recognizing all scouts who have advanced a rank
since December. All New Scouts will be recognized, as well. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
This will be a nice way to wrap up our year and we hope to see you there.

Summer Camp
If you are already signed up for summer camp, you have received or will receive a separate mailing
in the US Mail. Please read that letter carefully.  It will contain information about camp medical
forms, fees due, merit badge schedule, and confirmation of week(s) your scout is attending. Our
deadline for collecting all fees due is our pre-camp meeting on Thursday, June 16 at 7:30 PM. This
meeting is required for both the scout and a parent.

If you are still thinking about attending, we need you to sign up ASAP. If your boy is new to the
troop, summer camp provides a great opportunity to get to know other scouts and work on early
advancement. Please call Terry Dutton if you have any questions about the summer camp program. He
will be happy to talk with you.

April Campout Wrap-up
Our April backpacking campout to Kettle Moraine Forest was a great success. Scouts were prepared
for Friday night’s cold, and Saturday ended up being a beautiful day for camping! Thanks to all our
adult volunteers for driving and backpacking with the scouts!

Forest Preserve Clean-up Service Project
Our annual Thatcher Woods cleanup was held last weekend. Thanks to the thirty-seven scouts and
their families for participating!

Other Info
Our final Troop Committee meeting of the year will be tomorrow, Tuesday, May 3, at First United
Church, from 7:30 to 9:00 P.M. We welcome all parents.
