Boy Scout Troop 16
Oak Park, Illinois
September 30, 2014

Dear Scouting Family:
We’re off to a busy start. You should have received the full troop calendar with last month’s
newsletter. But always check the abbreviated calendar printed with each monthly newsletter as changes do occur.
Please share this information with your scout.

Wreath Sales Information
Our wreath sales kick-off is this Friday – ALL PARENTS SHOULD ATTEND FRIDAY’S TROOP MEETING
FOR A PARENT MEETING AT 7:30 P.M. The troop is counting on you. All scouts will be given their
wreath sales binder at Friday’s meeting. It includes all the information and forms scouts and parents will
need to successfully support this important fundraiser.

Key dates to remember:

Friday, October 24 – Initial Sales Orders Due. Scouts should continue selling since we order extras

Saturday, November 22 – Wreath unloading, 440 N. Linden (Linden and Chicago) 8:30 A.M.

SCOUTS MAY PICK UP THEIR WREATHS ON EITHER NOV. 22 or NOV. 29

October Campout
On Friday, October 17, we will depart from the church parking lot promptly at 7:00 PM for the family
farm of a former Troop 16 scout near Chatsworth, IL. Sign-up for this campout will be at our troop
meeting Friday, October 10; be certain your boy brings his $15 for his patrol leader for food and knows if a
parent is able to drive. Please be certain that your boy is properly dressed for the weather (and wearing his
uniform) and has packed rain gear. The scouts have planned this as a “wilderness survival” campout, so
survival tools (rain tarps, rope, flint and steel, etc.) are encouraged. LATE SIGNUPS ARE NOT

Support Businesses That Support Troop 16

Productive Displays
We are very grateful to scout parent Bruce Ulrich and his company, Productive Displays www.productivedisplays.com, for their generous donation and installation of our newtrailer logo.
The logo looks great – thanks, Bruce!

KURTENBACH FARMS
October’s campout is at the Kurtenbach Family Farm. The Kurtenbachs
generously allow us to camp on and utilize their property and facilities at no cost to the troop. One of their
family’s farm products is their own farm-raised beef. You can read more and make purchases
at www.kurtenbachfarms.com.

Website Help
We are looking for a troop parent with knowledge of website development and domain/DNS.
Specifically, we need help figuring out why our site doesn’t appear in Google searches!
Please contact Terry Dutton if you think you may be able to help with this.

September Campout
Our first campout of the year was a great success. 50 scouts and 9 adults enjoyed a weekend of
hiking and exploring at Camp Lowden near Oregon, IL. Thank you to our volunteer drivers. If you weren’t
able to volunteer to drive for September, we hope you find another campout where you’re able to help.

Committee Meeting
Our monthly troop committee meeting occurs the first Tuesday of each month. This month we meet
on Tuesday, October 7, 7:30 PM, at First United Church.
We do encourage any interested parents to attend – hope to see some of you there to learn what your son’s troop is doing and get involved with our troop’s operations.

Popcorn Sales
While our troop is not selling popcorn as an official troop fundraiser, we do want to let you know that
you can place an order for popcorn if you are interested. All you need to do is contact Dick Tresselt.
An information and order sheet is included with wreath sales material distributed to all scouts on
October 3. Checks should be payable to Troop 16. Order deadline and payment deadline will be the same
as our wreath sales – October 24. Pickup can be made in time for Thanksgiving. This is a way to get some
good popcorn and also support the scouts. Our Council provides sales prizes for the boys and the troop will
provide same 4.5% cash rebate and summer camp rebates as we do for wreath sales.
