Memorial Day

Two opportunities for scouts and families to celebrate Memorial Day:

Saturday, May 28:

Come help place flags at Veterans graves at Woodlawn Cemetery this Saturday, 5/28 starting at 8AM.

Coffee and doughnuts provided by the Cemetery at the beginning.  You don’t have to help out for the whole time, and you can come or go as needed, but the event runs from 8am to 12pm.  If you have an hour or so in the morning, come out and help recognize the veterans by placing small American Flags near their grave markers.  The Cemetery provides everything that is needed.  This is a fun service project that is part treasure hunt — you have to find the right graves.

Place:  Woodlawn Cemetery, 22nd (Cermak) and Des Plaines Ave.  Park in the lot off of Des Plaines

Time:  8AM to 12PM or any part thereof

The Woodlawn Cemetery management will be running the event.  Call them at 708-442-8500 if you have any questions.

Monday, May 30:

OPRF area Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be walking in the River Forest Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30th, and Scouts will carry the giant American flag. This is not a Troop 16-organized event, but all scouts are welcome to participate.  Please wear a full scout uniform if participating. NO RSVP is needed.

The parade begins at 10:00am and ends at Keystone Park where there will be a ceremony and a free community picnic. Attached is the parade map and frequently asked questions.

Parade Line-up begins at 9:15am, so please arrive between 9:15-9:45am at the line-up location (exact number unknown, but near the end of parade).  Scouts are all marching together, so look for others in Boy Scout/Cub Scout uniforms.
